Caracterização de ninhos de Acromyrmex laticeps nigrosetosus Forel, em povoamento de eucalipto em Paraopeba, MG Anais da SEB
Araújo,Márcio S.; Della Lúcia,Terezinha M. C..
The nesting habits of the leaf-cutter ant Acromyrmex laticeps nigrosetosus Forel were studied in areas under Eucalyptus plantations in Minas Gerais State, Brazil. A total of 12 nests were killed with methyl bromide and talcum was injected into entrance holes with a small air pump to mark the underground chambers and channels. In general, these nests presented a single chamber with average dimensions of 0.28 x 0.23 x 0.19 m (length x width x height) located just below the soil surface (0.11 m). Chambers were connected to the soil surface by 2-5 channels which opened at the surface. Externally they were covered by a large amount of dry leaves and in their early stage presented a mound of loose soil. The total nest population was, on average, 12,231...

Nesting behavior of Didelphis aurita: twenty days of continuous recording of a female in a coati nest Biota Neotropica
Monticelli,Patrícia Ferreira; Gasco,Aline.
Abstract: Choosing the nest site to raise a litter has consequences on female fitness in mammalian species with no male participation in the parental care. We accidentally video recorded a coati's nest appropriation by a female opossum Didelphis aurita, at Parque Ecológico do Tietê, State of São Paulo, Brazil. For 29 days, from December 22, 2011, to January 19th, 2012, the activity of the female was video recorded 24h/day with a camera trap installed close to the nest. At her first appearance, she had infants in her pouch. After taking leaves to the nest twice on the first night, she kept a routine of going out after sunset and returning to the nest before dawn, carrying leaves on the tail on seven occasions. During the last days of recording, infants were...

Nascimento,Sebastião Pereira do.
Some aspects on nidification behavior of three species of turtles [Podocnemis unifdis (Troschel, 1848), Podocnemis sextuberculata (Cornália, 1849) and Podocnemis expansa (Schweigger, 1812)] in the northern Brazilian Amazônia are reported. The three species showed similar nidification activities.
